s your kitchen ready for a change? Is it time to retire the avocado green refrigerator and opt for something a little more modern?

Do your cabinets need a fresh coat of paint? Or maybe they need to be replaced altogether!

It’s always exciting to see what styles and trends will hit it big in the new year.

Sit back and draw some inspiration from this sneak peek of what’s happening in kitchens in 2021.

The trend list

An up-to-date kitchen can change the atmosphere of your whole home. Here are a few changes that’ll make your kitchen the place to be.

  • Go two-toned in the cabinet department. Also referred to as Tuxedo cabinets, you don’t have to stick with black and white. You can choose any two colors that complement each other. Keep in mind that if painting cabinets isn’t your thing, there are always plenty of options for installing new ones. Your contractor will be able to give you a heads-up on the latest styles.
  • Get funky with finishes. Feel free to change out your hardware with a mixture of finishes. It’s a new year and your drawer pulls don’t have to match your cabinet knobs! Don’t be afraid to stray from the norm.
  • Get your kitchen in ship-shape with shiplap. Shiplap is basically wood paneling and it’s making a comeback in 2021. You’ll love the texture it adds to the space. Choose a white finish for a cool modern touch.
  • Camouflage the appliances. Appliances that blend in provide a sleek seamless look to the kitchen. One of the latest innovations on the market is a dishwasher that looks like a drawer. Appliances that don’t stand out in such stark contrast to the rest of the kitchen design also add an air of calm and coziness.
  • Easy-care countertops. The new year will see many people forgoing granite and choosing marble, quartz, or even butcher block instead. These options are stylish, yet easier to maintain. Some of them are a little easier on your budget too.
  • Let there be light. 2021 is all about light and bright. Go for bright colors on walls and accent pieces and lighter stained woods. Think tawny! Or, if that’s not up your alley, lighter grays and white are shades that stand the test of time.
  • Go green. Live plants will set off the look of your new kitchen remodeling. Scatter some pots of various sizes around the room. You’ll have the added advantage of the positive health benefits that live plants provide. Potted herbs are pleasing to the eye and useful too!
  • Install some decorative tile. Go for geometric shapes or funky bright colors. Use them on the floor or as a backsplash. A word of caution: Use them sparingly. Don’t overwhelm your space. Especially if your choice is a bold color or busy pattern.
  • Breakfast is served. Built-ins are all the rage and what better choice than a sweet little breakfast nook? With built-in bench seating and a little table, you’ll be all ready to start each day off right.
